Fides Entrepreneurship: Daniel Catone of Arimathea and the next talk
Catholic Entrepreneurship Talk Series in the heart of New York City

Thank You for an Incredible Event!
After two months of planning, it was truly inspiring to see the energy and high spirits everyone brought to last week's event. A true gift from God!
More and more, people are searching for God in their work, recognizing that our call to serve others is deeply human—just as the Lord has taught us.
Your enthusiasm and generosity are directly supporting the next generation of Catholic entrepreneurs. As Luke 6:38 reminds us:
“If you give, you will receive 10 fold.”
Daniel's talk felt like a mini masterclass—a powerful reminder that following our hearts as children of God brings us closer to Him, whether in our careers or the businesses we build.
To make sure we don’t forget the wisdom Daniel shared, here are three key takeaways that still resonate a week later:
3 “Golden takeaways” from Daniel at last weeks event:

1. We need to look at the best example of wealth and faith. Who else is greater then St Joseph of Arimathea in Daniels eyes!
“Saint Joseph of Arimathea gave him a place to lay his head.
Our lord is to not be outdone In generosity but stays for a couple of nights and then he’s good.
Saint Joseph donates his tomb, donates the linen.
We know he was a wealthy guy and used his wealth as a form of generosity. What about his faith though?
Think about it from his perspective.
There’s no church, there’s no sacraments, there’s no saints.
He’s got the Old Testament. He has a dead friend.
Yet Saint Joseph gives his most powerful possession to our lord. Risks his life for our lord. Risks his reputation for our lord and what does the lord do in response.
Gives him eternal life and makes him a co-heir of the kingdom.
This is the example of finance for me. He exemplifies the right use of power, the right use of wealth and faith all in one four line passage in each of the gospels.”

2. These are the companies that one should look as an example that go against the Catholic Social Doctrine
“Cigna. Hope none of you work for Cigna. Actually if you do you should probably leave. A lot of companies hide their evil which is kind of gross.
That’s a governance problem so if you’re hiding the work you’re doing of a public company, you’re already off the reservation.
What are they hiding? Well our team actually send emails to decision makers.
Actually I saw an email that was sent to Cigna by Borja and his team in Spain and it was very interesting. We and they serendipitously we pretend to be like a job placement company.
We don’t say that outright but we make them think that so we’ll say hey to Cigna’s head of legal and we said “If we ever wanted to place a female employee with you would you be willing to pay for abortion travel from Texas to Colorado because we can’t find it on your website?”.
And they’re like “We’d love to do that”. So one they’re out. So if you’re hiding and lying you’re out and if what you’re hiding is really bad, you’re out. Microsoft got in trouble for this. They’re better now. We looked at them and they were not donating money directly to Planned Parenthood.
We thought that was good, that’s a winner which is weird because Bill Gates is like Mr. Abortion so we looked a bit deeper and actually found that they were donating large sums of money to United Way chapters across the United States.
We looked at those United Way chapters and it was the one handing the money to Planned Parenthood.
Publicly traded company washing their donations so that we wouldn’t find it and people like us, activist investors wouldn’t find it.
That’s an activist violation and moral violation.”

“I’ll pick on my enemy. Global X, I’m sure a fine American company. Is as secular as it gets, they produced a product called Catholic Values Exchange traded fund which all of you could buy. It’s like 482 companies off the S&P 500.
I think they pull out 15 or 18 of them. Raise your hand if you believe there’s only 15 or 18 public companies that violate the catholic social teaching?
Exactly, so this isn’t rocket science. The problem that all of us face is we’re combining the two most complicated subjects in the world into one.
Theology and Finance. For most of us those things are baffling. Even for me and I work in both fields. Catch yourself some slack. You don’t know what you don’t know.
The church only very recently has come back and said here’s the way to look at it. Most catholics have no idea that this is happening right now with Pope Francis.
He has been a huge leader in helping catholics invest. Helping the Vatican invest.
He’s the first pope in church history that has applied church social teaching to the investments of the Vatican.”
Daniel’s insights and lessons remind us why supporting Catholic entrepreneurs is so important. If you’d like to help us continue this mission, click here to contribute.
