Fides Entrepreneurship 3 Wake-Up Calls from Todd Kata’s Journey Back to Faith

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night. You can take a look at last night's pictures here.
Your presence truly made it a powerful evening, and your support continues to bring these life changing stories to light. Even more so stories like that of Todd Kata’s, whose rise through Morgan Stanley, Carlyle, and billion-dollar hedge funds nearly cost him everything until God brought him back.
We hope his story helps you reflect on your own journey whether you’re discerning your career in Wall Street, or simply wondering if it’s too late to turn around.
Here are 3 golden takeaways from Todd’s talk that we hope will stay with you:

1. You Really See God the Father Through Your Father
“You really see God the Father through your father.”
Todd’s father, raised in a small apartment in Queens, was the first in the family to go to college driving an ambulance at night and playing baseball until he blew out his elbow.
“He worked three jobs, played in the baseball team… was an all-world pitcher, blew out his elbow… kept working hard, driving an ambulance at night.”
“He didn’t talk to me about it. No, he just did. He just acted.”
Todd shared how it wasn’t until later in life that he realized how much of God’s love was revealed to him through his father’s silent example and sacrifice.

2. Wall Street and Monetary Success Doesn’t Mean Success for One’s Soul
“How much money I made on Wall Street made no difference to my happiness whatsoever. No difference.”
After Princeton, Todd entered Morgan Stanley and quickly rose trading massive books, managing billions, and partying through the highs.
I got to Morgan Stanley and that’s when, as I like to say, thirty years of trying to tread water in Sodom and Gomorrah began.”
“You’re chasing money, chasing these highs, living life who’s got it better than me?”
“At the end of the day, when you're left empty, you're looking for a little bit more than that.”
He described moments of brutal ego, betrayal, and greed even with people he worked very closely with":
“He demanded that almost all the profits go to him, and he wanted eight figures. I said, this is not what it's all about”

3. The Wake-Up Flick from God
“I took the Lord for granted. That is what really hit home.”
Todd described 9/11. The death of his father. His closest friend dying from ALS. And then, COVID.
“At some point during COVID… the doctor tells you that you're lucky to be here, and it's not somebody else—it's you.”
“You start asking God for a lot of things you think are innocuous. Self-discipline, clarity, grace.”
“The Eureka moment was just, I know this movie. I’ve known the answer all along. And it’s been staring me in the face.”
It was through confession, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and returning to daily prayer that Todd finally let go.
“Confession makes me realize that the outcome is not important anymore.”

Bonus Quote – Grace and Rebuilding with God
“Entrepreneurialism is all about having the confidence to know that the Lord’s got your back. Thy will be done. And do the best you can with the gifts you got. Everything else is gravy.”
Todd reminded us that grace isn’t about looking perfect. It’s about returning to the Source again and again, and finally living for something more.
