Fides Entrepreneurship: 3 Golden Takeaways from Pierre Ferragu

Thank you to each and every one of you for coming last night.

Your support is immense in bringing these beautiful stories such as Pierre’s to light on the importance of faith in someone’s successful business life.

We know many of you were not able to hear the talk and we will be working on improving the audio for our next event. We cannot thank you enough for your understanding.

We hope though that these 3 golden takeaways that Pierre left us with help you embrace and feel his story on his walk of faith.

1. Talent is a Gift

“A good investor is not someone who wants to make money. A good investor is someone who has identified the talent, expertise and specific knowledge. An actual talent of reading relationships and who is applying that talent to investing to managing money in very different ways”.

Pierre’s message is that success comes from being the top in your niche which is a gift from God. That thanks to the realization of this gift he left Bernstein to start his own firm, New Street Research.

2. True Prudence is misunderstood

“Prudence doesn’t mean being careful—it means doing the right thing with wisdom.”

Pierre breaks open the misunderstood virtue of prudence, as an example of the balance of courage, humility, patience, and trust in God. He warns that an over-emphasis on one virtue can lead to vice (too much patience can become inaction, too much humility can become cowardice).

By being able to balance and be in the middle you truly get to live a life of faith the way god intended for it to be.

3. You Can’t Teach Faith—You Have to Witness It

“I didn’t know how to share my faith with my children… until I began bringing them to the streets in Midtown to serve the homeless.”

Pierre's monthly "Jesus Run" in NYC sponsored by his firm—serving food and conversation to the homeless—became his children’s base for their faith.

Through visible acts of mercy he passed on his faith. The homeless became living Gospel in their family life, and it shaped his children’s identity.

Some homeless for example have known him for more then 8 years and still ask about how his children are doing even as they live abroad and are far away today.

Pierre’s message: Children ultimately learn the faith not in theory, but in action.

Bonus Quote – On Surrender and Entrepreneurship:

“Every time I was ready to give up on the Saint Bernadette musical, something unbelievable happened. It’s like God wanted me just to keep not quitting.”

Pierre producing a musical with no prior experience—shows the crazy interplay of grace, uncertainty, and courage. He didn’t know what was coming but with some small yeses— he followed through on what God wanted from him. Ultimately never give up and say yes to God when he asks something of you.
